Vegan leather from the kombucha mother or mushroom is a novel way of growing a textile that you can use…….. not so much in a real functional fashion but as a adornment or object piece.
The real purpose in going through setting up this kombucha vegan leather is to try and demonstrate that there is possibilities of alternatives in all things.
Kombucha vegan leather is somewhat limited in its function though there is real research into the use of mushroom as a viable leather alternative.
Leather made from mushroom
Leather made from mushroom is weird and wonderful thing. Yet….. it is opportunities to think outside the box and not within the confines of what is defined as our “economic realities” that sustainable progress can be made.
We continue to see the negative non- sustainable effects of agriculture. Animal agriculture as we know it, will still continue to go down the line of burying its head in the sand and think that all the environmental issues is causes will go away.
No it won’t. There are climate change deniers and also plenty of money from corporations to continue to use the same unsustainable and agricultural practices that have been going for many years just for the sake of profit.
The more as a culture we come to realise the lie, that just because something is easy, cheap, and available means that there is good value in it.
Indeed, as far as sustainability goes in fashion clothing and fabrics the present state of the economics that drive mass production are only good for short-term profits in the elite 3% of the world. There needs to be a continuous thinking and push at a grassroots level to actually ask is this good for us as a world population.
In behind that type thinking that is necessary to challenge the media driven lies is access to education and knowledge. Through good access to the Internet and the ability to find information it should be easier to make informed decisions on issues of sustainability.
Unfortunately the inherent traits of human beings to take the easy way out comes to the fore, and we choose to look the other direction. It’s easier to do so and doesn’t need commitment on our behalf.
Sustainability choices should be an easier decision to make……… than to continue listening to marketing messages that do not have a sustainability ethic behind it. Biocouture, Upcycling, Interactive textiles, should all be words in peoples vocabulary as we search for viable alternatives.
This discussion becomes a different part of the debate surrounding sustainable and ethical production both in animal agriculture and consumerism, when we examine the motivation of large corporations and governments to keep the status quo.
